Dear Sisters,
I am very proud
to formally announce that our Vice President Programs-Carol
Womer was awarded the
Betsey Bradley
Leach Service Award at the
Flame Fantasy Event 2008! We are very proud of all of her work not
only for our chapter but also in her church and community. I was
honored to be able to present it to her at our April meeting.
Congratulations Carol! Thank you to Kelly Janousek for providing the
inspirational review of our ritual at that same meeting.
Our next meeting
is May 14th
where we will be attending the annual Long Beach City
Panhellenic dinner
where they conduct their installation of officers and present
collegiate scholarships (Delta Alpha president and legacy,
Laura Gibson,
is one of the recipients). Look for more information in the
newsletter. In
June
we will have a fun meeting aboard
Debbie and Craig
Schroeder's sail boat for a
sail around the bay. Please let Carol Womer know if you are planning
to attend this fun event.
A BIG thank you
to Diane and Cindy for another great year of our newsletter!! Our
past member
Kathleen Jeffries who moved to
Boulder, Colorado (and started a new DZ alumnae group there) recently
sent me their newsletter which she stated "imitation is the highest
form of flattery" as she had used our newsletter format for her
group's newsletter.
Please consider
joining us at
Region/Area Day
(Wild about DZ) in Phoenix, Arizona June 6-8th. A number of alumnae
from the Great Western Area will be attending. There is still room on
the collegiate buses if you would like to ride with them! Contact
Sandy Hall, Regional Collegiate Coordinator for more information. (See
information in this newsletter.) Also be sure and send in your
reservation for our
National Convention
in late June. Our
Michelle Smith
is nominated for National President and
Karen Campbell
for Vice President of Alumnae Affairs. Information can be found at our
national website and in your Lamp.

Delta Alpha is
finishing the school year with Greek Week, Relay for Life Walk, Chapter
Retreat, Pancake Breakfast, Rose Formal, and Senior Ceremony.
We hope you had time
to stop by the House for
Pancake Breakfast
the chapter’s Spring Philanthropy Fundraiser for
House Ear Institute
and Dee Schwandt
Scholarship
Fund.
This will be held on
April 27
from 8 to Noon at the Delta Alpha House on Molino in Long Beach.
Region X weekend is the first
weekend of June. Twelve Delta Alphas will be traveling by bus to
Scottsdale, Arizona, where Pi Zeta will be hosting this years region
weekend. The event will include workshops, leadership training, awards and
fun! They are planning on taking their swimsuits and cash (big shopping
center nearby).
Then two weeks later
is Delta Zeta
National Convention in Miami
Florida. This year the President
Laura Gibson
will be joined
Kelsey Beuregard (VP Membership)
Melissa Blanco
(Treasurer) and
Desiree Mosher (Secretary). Member
Priscilla Medina
will also be going she is using her “spring break” money to go.
As always this time
of year we start to work on
recruitment
(rush). We cannot express how much your support of the sisters during this
time is appreciated. We will need kitchen help for that weekend. The
chapter tries to feed the women during recruitment school, ROMP (recruit
our moms party) and recruitment weekend (2nd
weekend in September). The food cost the chapter over $275 last year to
keep these women on course and happy, but then we came in #1 again for
recruitment! Look for the help calls and be part of making us be #1
again!
